Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. is best known as the capitol of our country, but in the paranormal community, it is called the capitol of scary haunted supernatural ghost places! There were more than enough sites to visit in D.C. proper, but we also made quick side trips to Alexandria Virginia and Mt. Vernon.

For our DC trip, we stayed at the fancy shmancy Omni Shorham hotel… cause it’s haunted.

  • Omni Shorham 2500 Calvert St

We started in Alexandria, just a few miles from D.C. with a half dozen haunted spots all within walking distance:

  • Ramsay House (and Visitors Center) - 221 King St

  • Swope House - 210 Pine St

  • Alexandrian Hotel - 480 King St

  • Carlyle House - 121 N. Fairfax St

  • Gadsby’s Tavern - 138 N. royal St

  • Dolci Gelati - 107 N. Fairfax St

And about eight miles away is George Washington’s home, Mount Vernon:

  • Mount Vernon - 3200 Mt. Vernon Memorial Highway

And there’s a haunted military chapel only 2 miles from there, but we ran out of time.

  • Old Post Chapel - 204 Arlington Ave, Fort Myer, VA

Next up was a visit to the esteemed center of our national government. I guess:

  • U.S. Capitol - East Capitol St NE and First St NE

The following day we visited the Georgetown area of D.C.:

  • Old Stone House - 3051 R St NW,

  • Exorcist Stairs - 36 th and Prospect

  • Halcyon House - 3400 Prospect St NW

  • Oak Hill Cemetery - 3001 R St NW

And there were a lot more spooky areas around Georgetown that we didn’t have time to visit:

  • M Street Bridge – M Street at Rock Creek

  • K Street Bridge – K Street at Rock Creek

  • Walsh Mansion (aka Walsh-McLean House) (aka Embassy of Indonesia) - 2020

    Massachusetts Ave NW

  • Viola Drath Murder House - 3206 Q Street NW

  • Dumbarton Oaks - 1703 32nd Street NW

  • Holy Rood Cemetery - 2126 Wisconsin Ave NW,

Finally, we explored the Lafayette area:

  • Mayflower Hotel - 1127 Connecticut Ave NW

  • Lafayette Square – Pennsylvania Ave NW and 16 th St NW

  • Dolly Madison House (aka Cutts-Madison House) - Madison St NW and H St NW

  • St. John’s Church – 16 th and H Streets NW

  • Decatur House – 748 Jackson Pl NW

  • Hay Adams Hotel - One Lafayette Square NW

Here are a few other haunted places in the Lafayette area that we missed:

  • Blaine Mansion - 2000 Massachusetts Ave NW

  • Octagon House and Museum – 1799 New York Ave NW

  • Ford’s Theater – 511 10 th St NW

  • Mary Surratt House – 604 H St NW

  • Klimpton Hotel Monaco – 700 F St NW

  • Smithsonian Castle – 1000 Jefferson Dr SW

***** If you get a chance, you should also try to get into the Library of Congress, the Jefferson Memorial, Rock Creek Park, Rock Creek Cemetery, and The White House which is supposedly teaming with famous phantoms.
